New electric car models come from established brands and startup companies that are seriously threatening.
Many drivers (mainly in economically developed countries) will afford a new electric car. Practically all manufacturers are working on electric models, so we will soon have battery-powered cars in numerous segments and even trucks, because Ford, for example, is developing an electric F-150 truck and a Mustang-based crossover.
We have 10 new electric models ahead for the 2020 model year, from those in conventional form, through SUVs to exotic athletes.
Aston Martin Rapide E
James Bond’s favorite brand will be removing the veil from its first battery-powered model by the end of the year. It is based on the attractive Rapide coupe, and the production series will be limited to 155 copies. Of course, an “exclusive” price should be expected here as this car will certainly not be for the masses. It is expected to have autonomy of about 320 kilometers, with sprints up to 100 km / h in less than four seconds.
The newcomer to the auto business, Bollinger Motors, is preparing to launch its first model, the B1. This is a boxed SUV, much like the classic Land Rover. It rests on an aluminum chassis and is powered by a system of two electric motors that sends power to all wheels. The B1 promises 320 miles of autonomy at 620 hp and 900 Nm. It will be able to pull up to 3,400 pounds.
Kia Soul EV
The 2020 Korean brand is preparing a redesigned fresh styling electric hedge with a whole host of upgrades. The new 64 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery pack is designed to provide a range of over 320 kilometers per charge. Power will be increased to over 200 horses, with 395 Nm. It comes with four driving modes and four levels of regenerative braking.
The EQC is the first in a series of luxury electric Mercedes-Benz models. It is a boldly designed SUV with two electric motors, which combined deliver 410hp and 765Nm of maximum torque. All-wheel drive is standard, with a long list of modern systems in terms of comfort, connectivity, and safety. in Europe, the nominal autonomy is 450 kilometers, though the figure will be slightly lower by American standards.
The BMW brand is developing a brand new electric version of the Cooper Coupe, which is likely to arrive in the latter part of 2020. Details remain poor. Only some visuals are currently available and should share technology with the i3, with a range of 320 kilometers per charge. It is expected to deliver the famous Mini’s go-kart handling.
Volvo launches a new high-tech sub-brand, the Polestar, this year. While the first model, the Polestar 1, will be a plug-in hybrid, the Polestar 2 is an elegant, luxurious four-door hedge. In market terms, it targets the Tesla Model 3, with an autonomy of 440 kilometers per charge. With the help of tandem electric motors, a maximum torque of 660 Nm is expected. All-wheel drive is standard.
Porsche’s first all-electric model will be essentially exotic in the form of a four-door athlete. The sprint to the “100” is estimated at 3.5 seconds and the Cufenhauzen brand claims that the autonomy will be about 480 kilometers, with 100 miles to be recharged in just four minutes.
Here’s another startup. Rivian plans to launch a futuristic pickup truck for 2020, which will be manufactured at the former Mitsubishi factory in Normal, Illinois. This model, which is not just an electric pose, enjoys 650 miles of autonomy. With a four-engine system designed to pave the rough terrain, it can accelerate to 100 km / h in as little as three seconds.
Tesla Model Y
Arrival is expected in 2020, assuming no delay or other Tesla-style problems. The Model Y is essentially a crossover version of the Model 3. Smaller and less expensive than the Model X, it is sure to become a bestseller by the California manufacturer. It will initially come in Performance, Long-Range, and all-wheel drive dual-engine variants, with specifications similar to the Model 3.
The original Roadster was Tesla’s first model, practically a specimen that broke the ice in terms of performance and real autonomy. The new model promises great design and tremendous performance. Tesla claims that from standstill to 100 km / h it accelerates in just 2 seconds, reaching a top speed of 400 km / h, amazing for one electric car, all with the autonomy of as much as 1,000 kilometers.
